There must be basketballcourts there as, amazingly, they have a team. http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntry=ita&Team=303 Otherwise, Uffizzi and the other museums, the Cathedral, the Ponte Vecchio and countless other beautiful things. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2783533-florence_things_to_do-i http://www.mega.it/eng/egui/hogui.htm http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g187895-Activities-Florence_Tuscany.html Take the bus to Fiesole, which is the most beautiful place on a hill. You'll be glad you went. By the way, there are many concerts in the summer arranged free of charge in some of the beautiful buildings.

I just wrote my penpal who lives in Prato, a suburb of Florence. He said there is a cathedral, an emperor's castle, and a textile museum in his town. He said there aren't many tourists because it isn't near the city center. Downtown Florence gets super crowded in June and July with tourists, so Prato might be a nice trip off the beaten path. It would be fun to take a walking tour of downtown Florence. Its very compact, you can see a lot on foot. See all the cathedrals, the Duomo, Santa Maria Novella. Dress conservatively when touring the churches, or they'll make you buy a paper gown to wear inside and cover yourself. Definitely have some gelato. I have yet to find gelato in the states as good as in Florence. My favorite was tiramisu gelato, with the chunks of ladyfingers in it. Try the blood oranges. They are sweeter nowhere else. Fried iris petals- sound wierd to eat, but they are really good. I'm not sure what the Italian name is for them. Its an appetizer. And of course, eat some tiramisu. They pronounce tiramisu with a lot of flair- tea-RAHH-me-soo. Don't know much about b-ball though.
3 :
The best thing to do in Florence is to see David's statue and the Basilica.
4 :
I just got back from Italy 3 days ago. While there, we visited Florence so I can give you some valuable advice. Take guided tours, do not rent a car and drive yourself. You will see so much more if you are with a group. Driving in Florence is a nightmare if you don't know the city. Enjoy your trip.

hey guys..i need a little help with my school report..i live in italy and i must write a report for our local council and offer some ideas about how to update the image of our town to attract young people from other countries...this is what i wrote: This report is intended to recommend ways in which the town could update its image to attract more young people from abroad. I have discussed the question with my friends and most of them think that the following ideas should be considered by the local council if it wants to improve the image of our town. 1.Build an accomodation centre with low prices specially for them. 2.Organise shows with the live performances of local singers.I think they would really enjoy themselves. 3.Renew the gym and install new equipment. It's very important for young people to be fit, because nowadays the appearance means a lot. 4.what else does our town need to become more well-known ?Advertising,of course!I suggest opening a web site.Write on it all the information about Civitanova Marche, all the news, this way people will be updated and will know all the dates of the parties, shows, openings, everything! This way ,i think our town has very good chances to become more famous.I hope all my ideas are feasible and the local council will take them into consideration. could you please correct the mistakes and add other thing..ideas...just invent something please help me :D ...thank you a lot :) and of course 10 points go to the best answer ;)

Make a more eco-friendly town. Create a whole knew rail system that saves gas. Cities are doing that now and ones that do it get alot of people. People are going crazy about the enviroment nowadays and you could center an entire city off of one rail system.. Cities that change for the better are advertised because of their importance so thats alot of free advertisment as well.

This sounds like a worthwhile project and a way to get more involved. I will help you all that I can. I will capitalize the alternatives that I would recommend. This report is intended to recommend ways in which OUR town could update its image to attract more young people from abroad. (note: changing "the" to "our" you will be making yourself part of the town.) I have discussed the question with my friends and most of them think that the following ideas should be considered by the local council if it wants to ENHANCE the image of our town. (Note: ENHANCE is more positive than "improve" which could be taken as a comment of failure on the council's part.) 2.Organise shows with the live performances of local singers and other local talent to entertain the tourists. (note: a little rewording puts the point of interest on the visitor while offering opportunities to get more locals involved which will produce revenue for the town.) 3.UPGRADE AND/OR EXPAND the gym and ALL ITS equipment. THE GYM WILL BE A BENEFIT IN MARKETING OUR TOWN FOR TOURISM TO THIS AGE GROUP. (note: tell them why it is a benefit to the town. They don't really care about the fitness of young people. They are interested in what kind of money is it going to cost and what will the town benefit from it.) Those few alternatives will make it stronger in the aspect of being beneficial as far as the town council is concerned. The website is a great idea and an absolute necessity. Think about what kind of tours of the surrounding area can be put together for the tourists. Does your town have a festival or celebration during the year that could be advertised? If not, what kind of festival would represent your town the best or would fit into the culture of your area. What about some sort of music festival? One of the keys is to show the town leaders how they can pay for the improvements and end up increasing revenue in the town. If your plan succeeds, the revenue from tourism should increase significantly. Good luck with it. I wish you the best.

Which Courses Should I Take in High School for

Which Courses Should I Take in High School for?...?
I'm entering high school and would like to know which courses I should take, based on what I'm interested in becoming. I want to become a professor that works in the field of studying ancient cultural and religious beliefs, while doing archeology projects. I'm interested in learning about Ancient Mayan beliefs, religious studies, the universe (cosmology) etc. Which courses do you recommend I take? Sorry if this question is kind of confusing, this is the best way I can explain what I'm trying to ask :) Any help would be greatly appreciated! :) (P.S. Do you know any good schools/universities in Spain, France, Italy that offer the programs I'm interested in?)

wait til college to take courses on archaelogy or cosmology, because high school is not that varied at all. the most interesting class i have taken in high school is law enforcement. and i will be taking construction next year. i guess my high school prepares us for the dead end jobs haha
2 :
All that stuff you want to do comes after majoring in it in college. High school is pretty much just a higher level of the basics, plus a few electives. So if i were you, i'd take an astronomy class, some kind of ancient world history class, any religion classes...Well idk what your high school offers. Just flip through the course guide and circle what interests you.

traveling allover Europe for work. Who went to college in the States as a Philosophy major currently only completed three years. Got married to an American boy, who just finished medical school, after 4 weeks dating. They are still together after over a year. She currently can't go back to school because she has to work since they need the money for living. She also is not quite sure what kind of job she should do after her modeling carreer is over. She speaks Italian, German and English fluently. So, what do you think about her and what should she do?

Is she.... you? lol It sounds like she is young enough to put off school for a couple of years, when he can start making good money. I see no problem in getting a good job, especially when she can use so many life experiences as her qualifications and the three years of college. Try an Italian or German corporation in your area. They always need translators and would seemingly give you a chance. Remember this Signora, his career prospects are a key for both of you. It can allow you, eventually, to take some time off to finish your schooling, to have children, and to work on a small business startup. Good luck!

Summer/Spring outfits for a school trip

Summer/Spring outfits for a school trip?
Hi, I need two outfits, one for summer and one for spring. The spring one is to wear for school, so I cant wear just tank tops or excruciatingly short shorts. and the summer one is for a school trip to greece and italy in the summer, i can wear tank tops and short shorts then. I have extremley long and gangly legs, so I look rediculous in short shorts anyways, but I don't know, maybe I could pull it off! i'm 5' 3'' my measurement are 34 24 34 and i'm pale with green eyes and shoulder length brown hair. money is tight, so I would like some low prices.. thank you!

I assume you're not Australian, then you will need a suitable visa. As you will have to support yourself you will also need a work permit. Right now residence visas and work permits are virtually impossible to get. I doubt the Australian Government will let you in as you would be a drain on resources and will give nothing back. Now if you were a brain surgeon it might be different. The fact that's the children have an Italian father is not going to help. Ian M

Well, I do know an Irish lady here in QLD who comes to AUS for 6 months and then goes back to Ireland for 6 months and she has two children that are in primary school and they go to two schools each year but they are the same schools each year. I would love to spend 6 mos here in AUS and 6 months in the USA ( I am an American citizen ) but even if I could work that out financially, I think it would be tough on the my two kids.

Yes, of course. The best photography university in Italy I think it's in Firenze. Its name is L.A.B.A. (Libera Accademia di Belle Arti) but if I can advice you, don't choose this kind of studies. In Italy that type of faculty are not considered high level, you'd rather choose the storia dell'arte faculty, which you can find in more towns and it's more useful. sorry for my awful grammar. In bocca al lupo!! (good luck)

high school graduation trip around Europe

high school graduation trip around Europe?
Hello. For my high school graduation, my mother and I are going to take some time out of my summer and go traveling around Europe. I need some help. We are in the midst of planning and we have picked out some places we want to go to within the time we spend. London, England Amsterdam, The Netherlands Paris, France Marseille, France Madrid, Spain Barcelona, Spain Venice, Italy Rome, Italy Pisa, Italy Vienna, Austria Prague, Czech Republic Santorini, Greece Athens, Greece Are we leaving anything out? That is the order in which we are going in so far. Starting in England and ending in Greece, than coming back to America to start college. Now, another thing we are trying to figure out is the travel time in between. So if we start in London, how long will it take to get to Paris and Paris to Marseille and so on and so forth. If you can help me I'd really appreciate it.

You should really go to Valenza, Spain. They have the America's Cup Town, and it's amazing! What about Scotland? You can look up a tour on Delta Airlines... Good luck, have fun on your trip!
2 :
I would add in a stop in Munich. I don't know exact travel times, or how you are getting from place to place (train?), but that's easy to find. It seems to me you have things nicely spaced though.
3 :
first off, you didn't say how long you had for this vacation. a few weeks i hope. i just moved back to the US from 5 yrs in italy so i can tell you that even though europe is small, it is not always super easy to get so many places visited in a short time. your budget will also dictate how you are getting around, but here's some ideas to get going... 1) you can start by choosing how you want to start and end your visit - as in, are you flying round trip out the same european airport or entering europe in one city & leaving from another? 2) after you choose your entry & exit strategy, cross check your must-see items/itinerary with a map of europe while you are researching ways to get around. you may end up changing the places you want to see as you decide between trains planes and automobiles, or you may find that timetables of transportation force you to do the route another way. i suggest this as the first part of your itinerary looks geographically smart but then jumping from prague to greece could be troublesome. mabe save greece for a separate trip? or perhaps going from barcelona to prague, then vienna and heading south to venice, pisa, rome, greece; would work out better. 3) look into budget airlines for some faster hops: RyanAir, Easy Jet, Sky Europe, etc. Keep in mind that they are very strict on luggage weight, but it will behoove you to travel LIGHT anyways. 4) trains: those nifty passes come in handy but sometimes only if you're doing a lot of back-to-back days of travel & not spending much time in the destination city. i really hope you aren't going all the way there to spend only 1-2 days in such great cities! caveat: taking the "chunnel" train from england to france would be a fun way to start the trip, and you could back-track north to amsterdam via paris, then brussels. from brussels you could head south. or skip amsterdam and head from paris to marseille. BTW, train travel within france can be pricey. you may be able to get a cheap air france ticket from paris to marseille & save some time. 5) do your research. read guidebooks & find websites for the national railways, airlines, buses, tourist boards, or www.viamichelin.com (maps, driving directions & travel times by road) --anyways, it all depends on how flexible your plans are & again, how much time you have. don't cheat yourself by trying to see too much and end up not seeing much of anything, but make sure you plan to see the stuff that matters to you. HAPPY TRAVELS!!
4 :
i think ending in greece wouldn't be the most efficient route. try a clockwise motion - london to amsterdam to prague, then austria, then all the way down to greece. then, northwest to italy, france, then finally spain. you can probably go to all of these places by train - buy a rail pass (eurail.com), where you can go on the train for something like 15 days for 700 or so per person. i think you should definitely check out germany while you're in europe! berlin is an amazing city, and has great culture, and is generally as safe as the rest of western europe. it's right between amsterdam and prague, so it's on your way. in rome, what about milan and florence? i would suggest staying out of the more southern parts of italy, opting for central or northern italy. in france, there are a lot of other good cities, like nice, bordeaux, or the island of corsica. otherwise, looks like a great itinerary. i hope you guys have a great time!

"Tre metri sopra il cielo" (Three meters above the sky) is a very commercial film, but it's ugly and not in a high school. I can suggest 4 movies that take place in a high school: "Come te nessuno mai" (translation: Like you, nobody, never). The title in the anglophone version is "But Forever in My Mind". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/But_Forever_in_My_Mind Caterina va in città (English title: Caterina in the Big City) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterina_in_the_Big_City Notte prima degli esami (English: Night Before the Exams) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notte_prima_degli_esami And its sequel: "Notte prima degli esami - Oggi" (Night Before the Exams - Today) http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notte_prima_degli_esami_-_Oggi
3 :
"Tutto l'amore che c'è" (2000 - dir. Sergio Rubini) "Ovosodo" (1997 - dir. Paolo Virzì) "Mignon è partita" (1989 - dir. Francesca Archibugi)

Its Bella, on Maddi's yahoo for this question, dont worry , i tell her everything :L Right, In my year we have a school trip to go to Italy for a week and I really want to go but im absoloutly scared of having a 'number 2' there as i normally go often and it um. smells.. How can I avoid it?! Is there like some sort of tablet that can cause it to stop for about a week? or should i experiment? I know i sound stupid but i just dnt know what to do! D:

What??????? Are you sober?
2 :
Eeehm... I'm italian...I don't understand....what's number 2..? Is your period, maybe? O___o
3 :
eat a lot of bread to plug it up, avoid food high in fiber like fruits and veggies.bring your own body wipes.
4 :
I don't understand what is a "number2", could you please explain it? So maybe someone of us can answer you correctly ah I understood... how can you stop doing it for a week??? don't worry, in every part of the world people do it, and it smells bad everywhere! maybe you can do it in the hotel before to go out in the morning if you're embarassed with the other people in the room. Anyway in which city are you going?
5 :
Hahaha, hey, don't worry! If you have to "go number 2" just go down to the bathroom in the lobby or wait until the middle of the night of something and turn the bathroom fan on (and if there's a window in the bathroom, open it!). It's not really healthy to try to not "go" for a week, especially if you normally go everyday. However, sometimes when you take a long flight it messes up the "plumbing" and things get a little backed up naturally. Don't stress out about it! Take a laxative with you when you go just in case you do get backed up, you can decide what to do. Good luck, and enjoy your trip more than anything!!!!!
6 :
Seriously, it smells? You must be the only human being having this problem! Come on, everybody poops, I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it.
7 :
Sorry,what do you want?
8 :
Let's see....why are you using a silly slang for that anyway? Should we understand you straight away what are you referring for like magicians? Anyway you have no reasons to be scared for ...you can easily poo in Italy and despite the fact your food's habits are terrible (so I guess the smell must be unbeareable compare to ours) in Italy you find fantastic toilets with nice window to open and you got a big big benefits here probably you are still not thinking about...BIDETS!! What better occasion to use them for the first time and see how they can be useful and pleasant? If you dont get this occasion now that you are in Italy when then? The sensation of a clean ar.se will stunning you and you will feel in paradise as never before! So take it as an occasion and the benefits to be properly clean and comfortable down there after your "needs" as we italians feel since years..! You could not be more lucky just use the occasion Italy is giving to you...you will feel as a privileged and miss it so much when you back your place....in other words is better have a "number two" in Italy then elsewhere!
9 :
go to your doc and talk about pills for your issue.
10 :
DO ITTTTTTT
11 :
I don't think you're serious. If you are, learn to take a sh*t in public, you'll be doing it when, or if, you go to college. If you try to stop from going "number 2" you'll seriously, and I mean seriously, regret it.

How difficult would it be for me, being Jamaican, to eventually move to Italy

How difficult would it be for me, being Jamaican, to eventually move to Italy?
Just a little background info. I was born and raised in Jamaica, and I have lived in the US for well over 10 years...but I want to travel some more and see the rest of the world. OSmehow I managed to have fallen in love with Italy, and wish for this country to be my final stop. I tell my son that as soon as he is in High School I am moving to Italy! But, it seems that they hate or at least dislike black people. I can understand their point of view...but what if instead of taking jobs, I create jobs....I wish to own a small business their. What is wrong with that? PS: I did a little research on the subject...that is how come a know that there is some...racial discord. But I want to hear from someone who lives there or has been there recently to get their opinion. There is alot of racial discord with regards to immigrants, especially people of color...of African descent...if you google "black peole in Italy" an article from BBC will come up on that issue. But again...I really want to hear form some one who is there or was there recently.

2 :
The Yahoo Q & A is the wrong place to be asking your question There are lots of ignorant people out there that will attack your question, just because you mentioned about Italians hating blacks in their country. It may be the truth, but some people don't want to hear the truth. They will try to make you feel that they are the real victims. Visit Italy first. Kobe Bryant and his family lived there for a long time and didn't have any problems. God Bless You.

Hi,I am Chinese and have been living in North part of Italy since March this year. I can totally see why you are worried about before embark on a new journey here in Italy. I lived in UK for 7 years before I came here , and I think compare to UK and US, Italy still has a long way to go in terms of immigration and racism. There are lots of immigrants here from Eastern Europe, Northern Africa and China, and most of them are doing low-paid, low-skilled jobs. And for most Italians who have never traveled, that is what they think of immigrants--- those beggars come to our country and steal our jobs ( mind you , most of the Italians do not even want to do that kind of jobs). And one of my Italian friends told me that, not so long ago, Italy was a migrant countries, lots of Italians went abroad to search for a new life because Italy was really poor then. So the whole situation of huge immigrants influx is very new to this country, so they will need sometime to digest and to accept eventually!! I am not too sure what kind of business you want to set up , in North Italy, there are lots of family owned business. But you will have difficulties in dealing with the bureaucracy, and that will be a huge obstacle for immigrants--but once you will have all the documents, should not be any problem!! Anyway, best of luck for everything, follow your heart. There are racists all over the world, it is up to us to prove to them otherwise!!!!!

Where can I find a summer course studying abroad in Italy, Spain, Portugal, or France under 1000 USD

Where can I find a summer course studying abroad in Italy, Spain, Portugal, or France under 1000 USD?
So I'm a high school student who attends a liberal arts academy and have been suggested to study abroad in the summer of 2010. The problem is there is no one at the school who can guide me. Also, I'd prefer it to be under $1000 but am willing to go to $2000. I am Mexican American and my parents are immigrants; I don't know if that makes a difference, but have heard it does.

Have a look at this website : http://www.gseabroad.com which offers a whole package for students like you who want to study abroad, for anything from a month to a year. It offers a really good level of student support for you and, importantly, for your parents as well so that they won't be as worried about you living alone in a foreign country. You can also apply for financial aid - there's a section on this website that tells you how. It's worth organising your stay in Italy through an agency like this because if anything goes wrong, they are there to help you. This isn't the only one - just do a Google search for 'study in Italy as a college student' and you will see them all - but it's one of the best. They even provide an international mobile phone for you while you're away! They offer either Rome or Florence, both of which are amazing cities. Either would be a brilliant place to study; Rome is big and buzzy and there's a lot going on there for young people; Florence is a bit more laid back. My only problem with this is that I'm not sure exactly how old you are (I'm from the UK). But this is what they say about eligibility : "Once you have completed one semester/quarter at your home institution and do not have any academic restrictions it is feasible to study abroad at any time". My advice would be to call them (they are based in the US, contact details are on the website) and talk it through. If they can't take you because of age, they are likely to know somewhere that will. I went to study in France and then Spain when I was sixteen. My parents were worried the whole time, but I can honestly say it was the best experience of my life. I learned so much, not just about the languages and culture but about how to survive in the big wide world. It opens up doors and all sorts of possibilities for your future life. You may well be lonely and homesick at times, but it's worth everything for the confidence it will give you. Italy is a wonderful country and the people are warm and friendly. And look at it this way - it will be a great excuse for your parents to visit Europe too! I wish you the very best of luck.

It's really great if you can be flexible. For people who want to stay on base all the time and live in a fishbowl, it sucks. Keep in mind that the exchange rate is really bad right now, $1 gets you about .62 Euro.

A golden oppurtunity to experience and live in Europe! The history, culture, people, cuisines, and travels! all compliments of Uncle Sam! I spent a total of 9 years in Europe (3 tours) and haven't seen ot experiece it all, yet! You can continue with your education by signing up at the education center on Post. Have fun ,enjoy, and refuse to get stagnant by living on base and be miserable! CIAO!

Vicenza is beautiful, as is nearly all of Northern Italy. Be sure to live on the economy, find a Trattoria close by and get to know the locals. It's worth the investment. Just me, but I would not recommend bringing a new car over-too much chance of dents and dings. Buy one when you get there. Get out, take advantage of the USO and ITT tours available. Learn some Italian as well. GO! You won't regret it.

Vicenza, a city in northern Italy, is the capital of the eponymous province in the Veneto region, at the northern base of the Monte Berico, straddling the Bacchiglione. Vicenza is approximately 60 km west of Venice and 200 km east of Milan. As of 2007, Vicenza had an estimated population of 119,038. Vicenza is the third largest Italian industrial city by export. Economy The surrounding country is agricultural, but there are also quarries of marble, sulphur, copper, and silver mines, and beds of lignite and kaolin; mineral springs also abound, the most famous being those of Recoaro. The city has an active and lively industrial sector, which is especially famous for jewelry and clothing factories. The Gold Exposition is world-famous and it takes place in Vicenza three times per year (January, May, September). Other industries worthy of mention are the woollen and silk, pottery, and musical instruments. The headquarters of the bicycle component manufacturer Campagnolo are located here. Demographics In 2007, there were 114,268 people residing in Vicenza, located in the province of Vicenza, Veneto, of whom 47.6% were male and 52.4% were female. Minors (children ages 18 and younger) totalled 17.17 percent of the population compared to pensioners who number 21.60 percent. This compares with the Italian average of 18.06 percent (minors) and 19.94 percent (pensioners). The average age of Vicenza residents is 43 compared to the Italian average of 42. In the five years between 2002 and 2007, the population of Vicenza grew by 3.72 percent, while Italy as a whole grew by 3.85 percent.[1] The current birth rate of Vicenza is 9.16 births per 1,000 inhabitants compared to the Italian average of 9.45 births. As of 2006, 87.53% of the population was Italian. The largest immigrant group comes from other European nations (the largest being Serbia, Albania, and Bosnia): 6.28%, South Asian 1.85%, sub-saharan Africa: 1.44%, and North Africa: 1.36%. Currently one quarter babies born in Vicenza has at least one foreign parent. The city is predominantly Roman Catholic, but due to immigration now has some Orthodox Christian, Muslim and Hindu followers. 2 :
lots of cash - LOADS OF IT and some suncream and spare clothes - something nice for the evening =)
3 :
a translating dictionary none of the above will help if you can't speak their language
4 :
A map, sunscreen & sunglasses, maybe a hat for sun protection, or you could be baking up under the ruins. Have Fun!

How long will the trip last? A week? 1) Clothes: - A warm jacket (a light rainproof one MIGHT substitute an umbrella, but JUST IN case take a compact (small) one with you). - Two-three jumpers, pairs of jeans or sport-uniform bottoms (if you feel cold you can wear two pairs - I'm serious), - a couple of light long-sleeved tops, - a couple of T-shirts (they can be worn inside your other tops). Yes, March is a baladeur month in Greece. Between winter and spring, it can bring extremely cold or rainy days, but you have to check the weather report. 2) Accessories: - Sunglasses are good especially during noon hours - it is not too sunny, but the reflections can make you blind (city roads or archaeological sights). - optional: A dictionary is good, but if you know english you will have no problems. - A CAMERA, if you want to take photos - An mp3 player, if you want to listen to music. 3) Cash :-) !!! Make a brief calculation of how much you plan to spend on food and souvenirs and where you are going to get them!!! You might want to buy lots of stuff but you don't have to go to a "greek souvenir" shop or buy things wherever you go. Probably you should not spend more than 10 Euros MAX. per item and ONLY if it's of big size or a nice(?) piece of jewellery (it depends on the item: I would prefer a good book from a musem and I would give max. 20 euros, I don't know. Keep the leaflets and guides instead of buying things.). Keep a bottle of water with you (you don't want to spend all your 50cent and euro coins on 500ml bottles at kiosks or restaurants - find a "supermarket").

Should I go to Italy

Should I go to Italy?
OK, so in May of '09, my school is hosting a trip to Italy. We will fly to Milan and drive down to Pompeii, stopping in Rome and other cities. It will last a week and costs $3,000. The only problem I have (besides it being really expensive) is that I only know one person that is going. It will be a trip of a lifetime, I know for sure because I never left the country. Do you think I should go? Is it too expensive? what should i doooo!!!??

3000 is expensive but unfortunately school trips always cost like that :( Depends on what type of activities you'll be doing and also if this person you know is actually someone you quite like and if you don't know them that well you guys could become closer throught the trip. But mainly focus on what you guys are going to be doing and if its worth it or not...
2 :
Too expensive. We did a 9 day trip, with air from SFO, for $2600.00. If you want to go even cheaper there are are tour companies that will do it for you.
3 :
each person?? that is a ripp off...believe me is better you come here on your own, organized it yourself and with a good company of people you know....3000 dollars is bleeding expensive even more than may in Italy is low season! I would go to Polinesia with that amount of money!
4 :
I truly believe you sholdn´t go:way too expensive! Not only that, you should consider that coming to Europe will cost also a lot for everything you buy here with such a weak Dollar against the Euro... I thing will be better for you to organize this trip on your own,or with somebody you choose to travel with. When you´ll be so far,ask here on Answers to find good hotels and tips to spare some money having real fun. We´ll be waiting for you!

Ok, I'm a senior in High school and I have recently decided to move to Rome when I graduate. Any advice

Ok, I'm a senior in High school and I have recently decided to move to Rome when I graduate. Any advice?
Ok, I've worked out the common sense stuff.....I need to know about the things that aren't so obvious. I already know what I need to get to go, and I have found out everything about the culture that I can (I fell in love with Italy when I was 15) and I speak the language fairly well. I've looked up everything from crime rates to the average temperatures. I just want to make sure I've not left anything out. So any advice would be helpful. Oh, and also, I only plan on living there for about a year before I go to college because I won't have the chance to go after I get out. Oh, and another thing, I'll be traveling there and living there by myself until I make friends there, though I will have a room mate because I will only be able to afford to rent a room in an apartment, not the whole thing :( Thanks!

www.tripmates.com - find your some cool friends who are already living there!
3 :
I am so jealous. Rome IS awesome. Well, it looks like you checked everything out. I was in the military and stationed in Italy. I met some Americans there who were students. Because, you probably won't have a work permit...you can't get a job. But some of the people I met, decided to stay during the summer and just found odd jobs in which they were paid cash. I don't think you'll have problems making friends...even American friends. I just hope you have enough Euros to get started. Getting set up is expensive. You'll probably be living a pension until you find a roomate? They run between 300 and 500 Euro every ten days. Or, you could stay at a hostile for about 15 Euro a night (hostile.com) but since you are by yourself.....I really don't recommend it. But, it is a great way to find a roomate you know. Okay, I really don't know what else to say......be as safe as possible!!!!
4 :
Yeah. Don't. Try Torino, it's a much safer city for an Italy novice. I wouldn't really recomend Rome. A lot can happen when you're on your own there.
5 :
Can you LEGALLY live in Italy? That is the most important question of all. If you're there illegally and your landlord kicks you out and steals your stuff, or if you need medical care, or if you need to get a job to pay for your airfare home, you're really screwed. If you have to call the police because someone attacked you, one of the first things they will ask you for are your immigration documents (this happened to me). Landlords won't rent rooms, much less apartments, to people without papers (unless you're renting illegally... which opens up a whole new can of worms). The second important thing is whether or not you can speak Italian - I moved to Italy (for work, with five days notice) without being able to speak Italian and had a really difficult time. To find a room, go to the universities and technical colleges - there will be lots of posters for shared apartments. Note that a "posto letto" situation is where you rent a BED in a shared bedroom- it's VERY common in Italy. I personally prefer to have my privacy! You can usually stay in a youth hostel while you apartment-hunt, I suggest staying in one that doesn't have an afternoon lock-out. You may be surprised by your Italian roommates- I lived with three different Italian girls (ages 25-33) and none of them showered daily, plus when I invited friends over they would often make really rude remarks about English and American people (although they never said anything to me when I was home alone!). I also think you might not have your head on your shoulders if you think "I won't have the chance to go after I get out." That's insane. There is NO college program IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD that mandates that you must start working immediately after graduating. Often employers look highly upon post-degree overseas experience, because they know you had some time to think about what you really want to do, and chose their company to work for.
6 :
Just use your common sense and be careful. Don't go anywhere alone at night. And take as much money as possible because you are going to need it (but keep it in a safe place)
7 :
yeah...don't!

Travelling in october.10 points for most clever answer

Travelling in october.10 points for most clever answer!?
Im going on a school trip to italy on the 2nd week of october. I was just wondering what kind of bag i should bring for touring. Should i bring a sling bag or a backpack? Or if there is another kind of bag that is better for travelling, please let me know. Also, what other important thing should i bring for the plane and for everyday use that I might forget. Or maybe, you know something important about travelling that I don't, please share! Thanks!

CANDY!
2 :
use a backpack a sling back will eventually hurt your shoulders. roll your clothes, dont fold youll have more room. take sneakers if you plan on doing sightseeing. for the plane take books, nintendo dx if u have one, ipod, anything to keep you busy. i've travelled to turkey and greece. its hard to beat the jet lag, but you really have to force yourself. if you fight it itll be worse. if its light out and u want to sleep *cause itd be nighttime here* dont do it. save it for italys nighttime. your body will get adjusted quicker. also bring more underwear than you think you will need. just trust me on that. have fun! take lots of pics!!!
3 :
condoms
4 :
ok....sorry this isnt going to be clever but my parents went to italy this last summer and the most important thing they brought was this purse thing that had a metal strap keep that around your shoulder if you want to keep all of your money/ID/Passport/ect....stuff with you in those places (italy,Greece, ect) there are people there JUST to rob you. they will cut the strap of your backpack/purse and steal all of your stuff....BUT with the metal strap purse they cant cut through it and all of your valuable belongings will be safe....
5 :
Some Euros.. in cash .. and Credit card .. Not all places use Amex.. Visa or Mastercard is better. make sure also to have some extra cash ..since sometimes ATM Machine are in Italian :P Camera is good Idea. for the plane Get your iphone, ipod loaded with Videos and music. Backpack.. is the solution for long trips.. Send us pictures.. Roaming phones are needed .. laptop maybe ... loads some maps of the area your heading to .. in order not to feel a complete stranger..
6 :
Backpack for sure. its way more comfortable and easier on the back to carry around while touring. Just make sure anything valuable(money, camera etc) is not in an easy access zipped area. Plus if a good friend is with you, they can get stuff out and back into the pack while its still on your back. For the plane bring the following: Gum, mints, hard candies....since you cant take bottles of water really this helps to keep you from feeling dried out while flyig for so long. also a magazine or books to read aside from the movie youll watch to make the time go by faster while flying. Another one is antibacterial hand sanitizer or travel size wipes, just in case there is not place to wash your hands. Have a great time, youll love Italy, there is no place like it. The food, culture and the people will make you not want to come home!
7 :
You could buy one of those back packs with wheels at the bottom, they come in various sizes, that way if your shoulders & back start to ache, it's merely a case ( pardon the pun ) of taking it off with drawing the handle & pushing it in front, or pulling it behind you. Good Luck. Enjoy your Italian Trip. X :-)
8 :
Right. A Backpack will be better, as there are thicker straps, therefore meaning that if you decide to carry a lot of stuff, you won't feel the pain of the sling bag's ropes cutting into your shoulders :). There really isn't many other practical bags which you could take. One of my mates took her stuff in a handbag, and it got snatched :/. For the plane, you will want to take some sweets. Don't take crisps, as they will go everywhere. Also, take your iPod/ MP3 player on the plane, as it makes time pass by :) When I went on the trip to Italy last year (Y10) I took too much on the plane, and I didn't use half of it (just sat and talked to my mates!) Good thing your not going to Russia; Have you seen the Skins episode where they go to Russia and Anwar gets anally searched? So funny :) Enjoy your trip :), and remember to take Sun Block, I didn't and my skin was so burnt, it was peeling off (literally!) :/ Hope that answer helps :)

Should I go to Italy

Should I go to Italy?
My school choir is going to Italy (about 100+ people going). I have had some drama with some friends in the class last year (I am a sophomore now). I'm one of those people who is uncomfortable leaving home for awhile unless I'm really comfortable with the people/person I'm going with. Anyways, my best friend Claire who I'm really comfortable with joined choir this year and there was a possibility that she would be coming to Italy with me. She got on the waiting list, but then I found out her parents aren't going to let her go. I know Italy is a one in a lifetime oppurtunity (I've never been out of the country), but I am afraid I'll be in a situation where I'm going to want to come home (considering I don't have any other close friends in that class I could confide in, etc) and Italy is too far for my parents to come pick me up.... What should I do? Thanks so much! :) There is no persuading her parents, Claire has already written letters, and offered to pay 1000 dollars (about half the cost of the trip).

Just be yourself. It doesn't matter if it's good enough for someone else.

Question for American high school student

Question for American high school students?
How much homework do you have? Have you to study a lot in the afternoon? I live in Italy and I last all my afternoon studying, I finish about 7.30/8.00 PM. And you?

what a great question i'm not american but i study from about 4 to 11 without any break between but i think they study less than this very fewer
2 :
all depends on what level you take we can take some college level courses and they have a lot of work and so do other advanced classes. Standard (we call college prep) have less. so anywhere from 2to 6 hours depending on courses and night.
3 :
It depends on my workload each night. My classes this semester are a bit rigorous and I have an AP class in which the teacher does not teach, doubling the amount of studying I must do :( I tend to stay up until 11 pm (my "bedtime" being 10) because I have so much studying to do.
4 :
I have between 30 minutes to an hour of homework every night. I don't normally study unless i have a test but when i do i study in school when i have study halls or free's and for around 20 minutes every night. I had basketball for the past three months so i'd usually finish everything around 10 PM.

I'd vote either Italy or Austria. You'll enjoy the cultural differences. I assume your Italian and German are at a high level.
3 :
Take it from someone who studied abroad, I DEFINITELY recommend going overseas to study. It seems like all your choices are out of your native country so good for you for getting out of your comfort zone. From the names, they all seem like they have a good program in what you want to do. I would look at the exchange rate, price of living and the location of the school in relation to things you like to do (activities in the water as opposed to on a mountain, for example). To look up the different programs, www.studyabroaddomain.com has some good information for you on a lot of different study programs and locations. Hope that helped!

what's the diff between College, Graduate school, University

what's the diff between College, Graduate school, University?
Hi, I'm Italian, I wanted to know what's the difference between College, Graduate School and University...what names you give to what? im confused...In Italy we have what we call Universities where u graduate and then Schools where you get a diploma. that's all. Thanks for your help!
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers

In the US, we have 2-year colleges, 4-year colleges, and universities. 2-year colleges offer the 2-year associates degree, and 4-year colleges and universities both offer the 4-year bachelors degree. There is no difference between the degrees granted at 4-year colleges and universities; colleges tend to be smaller and don't have graduate programs, while universities tend to be larger and have graduate and/or professional programs. Graduate and professional programs are degree programs you enter after you finish your 4-year degree (called a bachelors degree); they include masters degree (2 additional years of coursework), Ph.D (2-6 years of research after the masters), MD (medical degree, 4 years after the bachelors), JD (law degree, 3 years after bachelors) and others.
2 :
In the US you go from high school to college or an university-they are the same thing. Once you get your Bachelor degree, which takes four years, you graduate and can go on to Graduate school for your Master degree, and then a Doctorate degree. Many University's have Graduate programs, so a student could stay at the same school.

Trip to Italy and Greece a no go

Trip to Italy and Greece a no go?
So im American and im set to go to italy and greece this june with my school. my parents are worried because of the recent news that has been in the paper about the two places. I was wondering if anyone who has been there recently or lives in either places could tell me if they think its a safe place to visit at the moment. Or anyone else who would like to say something. Im looking for different opinions so any replys are great. Thank you. They read some articles about riots. I havent read them myself but i have seen them in the papers.

Italy and Greece are safe. I'm not sure what articles they read, but it was probably grossly exaggerated. Of course there is some crime, but nothing to worry about, as it will most likely not affect tourists (Apart from pickpocketing. You'll be absolutely fine if you are with your school, so there's nothing to worry about. they wouldn't take schoolchildren to a dangerous country.
2 :
greece was kicking off something rotten recently but i think the target was the government not u.s. schoolchildren so i'd have thought you'd be alright. it was centered around the places populated by working greeks as opposed to tourist areas and i think it's calmed down now anyway. of course, if like me you love a good riot...
3 :
I'm sure they are perfectly fine countries to go visit as a U.S. student going on a school trip.

In theory it is a lovely idea, France is the tradional home of fine cuisine, Italy the home of home cooked food, and Greece also great good also with recipes handed down through the generations of family However I may burst the bubble a little bit with the practicalities Basically immigration laws have tighted up generally over the last 5-10 years due to large influxes of immigrants and movements of people within the EU Therefore unless you hold an EU/EFTA passport it is very difficult. The same as it is difficult/impossible for a European to move to the US/Canada, the opposite is also true You will either need to be (a) self-employed and show evidence of a thiving business (b) a highly skilled migrant with skills/experience which are in demand in Europe (and usually already receiving a high salary in your domestic country) or (c) sponsored by a company - and this is only normally done in the case that they cannot fulfil the job from the pool of labour within the EU or that you have specialist knowledge/experience Also in principle you will need to speak the language of the country you work in (although there are exceptions to this if the company is an International one whose working language is e.g. English) There are small differences but there generally the policies are very similar and restrictive for all EU countries, but I do not know about the non-EU ones. The best thing to do in order to get accurate info including viability & time is to contact the embassy of the country you are interested in. They can provide you the official information Maybe you could enrol at a cooking school in one of the countries and spend some time there as a student as a student visa is easier to obtain. This would also look great on your cv to take home! Nothing like learning French cooking in France (same for Italian & Greek) I wish you much luck

Has Italy gone nuts and caved in to political correctness

Has Italy gone nuts and caved in to political correctness?
They just banned the crucifixes in schools because one person complained.

What possible reason could there be for a crucifix in a school? I can't think of even one.
2 :
Sounds like America, huh? We kicked God out of all our schools many years ago because one woman (M. O'Hare) complained (she was an atheist). Too many Liberals changing the laws.

Well European government is CRAZY just in case you didn't know.
4 :
Italy is a country in the South of Europe. Italy's mean annual rainfall varies from about 20 inches per year, on the southeast coast and in Sicily and Sardinia, to over 80 inches in the Alps and on some westerly slopes of the Appenines.

It's pretty lame. I mean 99% of the ppl there are Catholic, it's in their culture and heritage, why should the majority roll over for the minority? If you dont follow Christ, just ignore the cross and move on with your life. Italy is going to eventually become an unreligious country, just like America.

are you f*cking serious? that really pisses me off, i seriously hate those type of people that have to complain about everything

If you found out that your child was in a public school which had quotes from the Koran hanging on the wall, would you say something? try to be objective. By keeping government matters secular (even from religions which you may belong to), you are guaranteeing security from religious inspired tyranny. Besides, the law requiring Italy to have a crucifix in every classroom comes from the 1920's... when Italy was under the direction of the Fascist regime. That's not exactly the most promising of sources, is it? It's not helping that one of the most prominent critics of this passage has been Italian politician Alessandra Mussolini (that last name isn't a coincidence)

What are the procedures for bringing home merchandise from overseas

What are the procedures for bringing home merchandise from overseas?
I'm going to Italy in June on a school trip and I plan on doing some serious shopping. What are the procedures for bringing home the things I buy in Italy back home to the States? Is there a tax I have to pay, or some paper work I should know about? Thanks!

Unless its food/drink or some other banned item, put it in your suitcase with the rest of your stuff. If you paid for it, its yours.

You need to list everything you buy and bring back with you and it's value on the customs form that you hand to the officer when you go through the customs checkpoint. If you exceed allowed amounts of certain items (e.g., more than 1 liter of alcohol - note that you have to be 21 to bring back alcohol) or the allowed dollar value of your goods, you'll need to pay duty. What you have to declare is listed here: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/what_you_declare.xml . The exemption amount that you can bring back before you have to pay duty is $800. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/duty_free.xml The list of things you cannot bring back is here: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/prohibited_restricted.xml
