can you be a child life specialist in italy

can you be a child life specialist in italy?
i really want to be a child life specialist but at the same time i would love to live in a different country, particularly italy. but does italy offer jobs as a child life specialist or something similar to that. i really want to work with kids, but not be a teacher. i want something similar to working with disabled or ill children like in a hospital. do any schools in Europe offer a degree in child education, child development, child life, psychology, etc? Many thanks!

This is one of the most idiotic 'PROFESSIONS' ever created. I am not trying to hurt anyone, just posting honest opinions and the truth. Child Life Specialist: These individuals get paid about 40k-60k a year to play with the kids. That's it. That's all they do. No training, no therapy, no teaching, no nothing. The sort of thing the candystripers used to do in an earlier, more sane world. Many of these so-called child life specialists (not all,) have bachelors degrees in psychology, early childhood education, or yadayadayada yada. However, do their jobs really require any of these four year degrees? No! Technically, pediatric nurses or nursing assistants are more than capable of doing the same thing, and also good honest volunteers! These people are working in a hospital setting, which in America unfortunately establishes a hierarchial structure, with the doctors being on top because they spent all the time and effort to go to medical school, the nurses after them, and these 'specialists' at the bottom. So in actuality this hierarchial system causes them to be more self aware and have a low self esteem. Because of this they treat volunteers like crap to make themselves feel superior, or because they feel like their jobs are threatened! They make a career out of something that should be made common sense to everyone that has or doesn't have kids! One ultimately paid for - and this is the best part - by the families of the sick kids themselves! When I and others have volunteered at the hospital for over four years, that is exactly why they didn't like me and other volunteers, because they felt we were taking away their jobs! At any point if they felt their jobs threatened by any volunteer or staff member, they simply tried to find ways to make that person quit (it's the same as the UAW in the Automotive industry, and what really killed the automotive industry!) Perhaps they could get a night job as a "Beer Drinking Specialist" and get the bar to pay you for the right to drink their beer. Unfortunately we Americans are creating service based, useless jobs to keep the economy going (No other country, including western countries that have better overall ranking health care systems such as Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, have a useless job such as a Child Life Specialist.) It's not because these other countries are evil and don't care about sick kids, it's simply because they realize that you don't need a four year college degree and useless certification to do this! Here's an honest question for you: Is there really a need for a four year college degree and some type of 'crafted' certification (which by the way I am sure someone sitting at home is collecting quite some money from,) to do this job? NO!!!! Or could the hospitals hire a nursing assistant for $10/hour instead of paying someone over $40K-$60K to do the same thing? Face the real facts: the 'Child life specialists' are nothing but a marketing ploy for the competing hospitals to try and make more money! It's a way to advertise their facilities as being better so a person will go to their hospital instead of a competing hospital. Like I mentioned before, unfortunately, this is why health care reform is needed in this country -- because medicine is turning into a big business! In the short term, these jobs can make people feel more valuable and better about what they do. However, the real fact is that this is simply a wasteful product of american consumerism capitalism. Instead of promoting more parental and community awareness of how to raise children, help the sick children in communities, the American university and medical system is creating more useless jobs out of it! The universities create more psychology based programs because it is a much easier field to study and go into (compared to real fields such as engineering or medicine, what do you do with a bachelors degree in psychology? nothing!) and the universities want the money. This is exactly the situation and greed which caused the housing bubble and led to the banking bailouts, which killed the auto industry and the auto bailouts, and it's what's killing health care system now and needs health care reform. I am only mentioning all this so people looking to go into these types of profession realize how they are part of and affect the overall system! What we don't need in this country is college graduates going into ridiculous fields such as this. What we do need is more people working and studying harder in science, real engineering, and real medicine to develop the future. It's a lot more difficult and a lot of work, I know, and unfortunately people often want to take the easy way rather than the more difficult road.

AFS in Italy for 17-year-old girl

AFS in Italy for 17-year-old girl?
In a year and a half i will hopefully be going on an AFS exchange to Italy from New Zealand for a year. By then i will be 17. Just wondering if anyone can tell me about the high school system there? I tried Googling it but was very confused by all the different types of high schools. And just general life in Italy for teenagers of my age? Thank you!

in italy the school usually starts at 8:30 and finishes at 13:30.you can choose between a variety of schools, for instance there is the scientifico where you study mostly math, the linguistico where you study mostly languages and so on.however usually ever school has at least 10 subjects and you got to study all of them,i mean they are compulsory,it is not like America where you can decide the things you want to study.generally Italian schools are not so difficult, you study for 9 months and every month there is a classwork or a oral report in every subject in which you have to take at least 6 out of 10(10 is like A,from 5 to 2 is E/F). you want to know general life here?well you can do what you want.you have to study in the morning,in the afternoon you should do your homework and then you can do whatever you want!

i'm an italian exchange student in the USA!! =) so...in italy there are 5 years of high school, generally (like in my italian school) they put exchange (17yearold)students in the second year, and if they have no difficulties they put them in the third year, but that depends on the school you are going to attend. in italy there are a thousand kind of high schools!! usually is the host family that decide for the exchange student. first, we have "licei", those are usually the most difficult schools, they can be -liceo scientifico (you can study more science) -liceo classico (where you can do humanity studies, subject such as greek, latin, history of art, etc)) -liceo artistico (art classes) -liceo linguistico (languages) then there are "technical schools" -for geometries, -ITIS (you can study physics, chemistry...it depends on the school) -magistrali, where you can study subjects like psychology and etc... then there are many other, professional high schools, but usually exchange students attend one of those i wrote above!! i don't know if your system is similar to the USA's one, but compared o here the biggest difeerences are that in italy if you want to do sports, they are not through the school, but outside... then you cannot create your schedule, then you don't have lunch in school since you have generally 5 or six periods every morning..then most of the students have school on saturday... then you have always the same class, teachers move around the school... general life...hmm...the drinking age in italy should be 16, but even if you are 14 and you want a beer, they give it to you...i don't want to instigate you to drink! it's just that here in the usa everyone thinks that italy is cool just because of that!! anyway...that means that teenager can go to the club earlier, it's generally full of places for people of our age....italian teenagers generally go out on saturday, afternoon and night..and sundays..sport practice is generally 3 days a week, not everyday..it's hard to find rural places and easier to find cities, so it's easy to have fun =) i hope i helped you!!

If i had lived in Australia now i would be happier--- excuse me for the orrible english...it is because of the disorganised school (ahahah u__u)

Sound backpack for sure, keep it as much out of sight as you can when not carrying it, and where it isn't easy for anyone to reach. When carrying it keep good hold on it. You could use a sound leather type bag, but they are a bit of a pain to be picking up and putting down all the time. I've been there, don't leave anything to chance they are a nice people, but a few aren't so nice, don't get within reach of two youngsters on a motor bike or scooter, if you see one sitting on a motor bike, look out for his mate.

In northern and southern Italy food is A LOT different, but it's better in South in my opinion. FOOD IN SOUTHERN ITALY: http://www.travelsignposts.com/Italy/food/food-in-southern-italy FOOD IN NORTHERN ITALY: http://www.italianmade.com/regions/geoarea-foods1.cfm In Italy we stay at school until 13:30 and we can't choose the subjects that we want to study. The subjects change in every school, it depends on which High School you choose before. In the afternoon we usually go on squares with friends, we take a walk in the center or we go to the cinema. . . :) Bye

Watch out for pickpockets and other shady types around the Termini Train Station. Watch out for gypsies in general and small children who are thieves. Be sure to get a money belt that goes around your waist and under your clothes and keep your passport and extra money it there. If you want to travel outside of Rome during your stay, you can do so by rail. If you have time, a rail pass might be a good option. Have fun, sounds like a great trip!

You can write a book about Rome...................Can't eveen begin in this space. All your questions will be answered when you get there and meet your class mates. It is a beautiful country with beautiful cities. I am sure you will get to some of them if you are lucky. You will make many new friends there. Good for you !!!

I want to travel and play music. What should i do after high school?
I'm 18, just about to graduate. I got accepted at about 6 colleges around New England. But i dont really feel excited to go to any of them. I want to travel. I want to learn, especially about music, but am not interested in going to a college for music. I am really not committed to the idea of going to school. I want to find opportunities to spend at least a year abroad right out of high school. ? Ireland, australia, new zealand, italy, are all places ive always wanted to see. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated. What should i do with my life?

i live in italy at the moment, but i can't tell you about clubbing since i don't go. If you really wanna fit in, you should wear peacoats and scarves and tight pants, expensive heels and nice purses. that's the main fashion here. there aren't a lot of cheap stores, especially if you're american. if you decide to carry a purse with a wallet in rome, WATCH IT LIKE A HAWK. the pickpockets there are really clever. DON'T burp after you eat, that's rude, and don't wipe up any kind of sauce with your bread, for some reason, that's considered rude too.

Ok I'm almost out of High School and once I graduate the first thing I'm doing is moving FAR away'but I cant decide If I want to go to Italy or Japan I am fluent in both language(I'm also fluent in French)So what do you guys recommend?

Italy its a way better life style.

Japan! I always wanted to go there! dammit your a lucky guy venice is really nice man but tokyo just tops it anyways have fun! =D
4 :
I'd visit all three (including France), just because those are my top three choices as well. But, I'm assuming that money is a limiting factor, so I'd have to say Italy.
5 :
Japan. Who wants to go to a country where the women have more body hair than you do ?
6 :
I'd say quality of life, the food, the weather will all be better in Italy or France. Japan is the most advanced Asian country, but you really can't compare it to Europe.
7 :
japan all the way! but you should look online to see what both places offer and maybe which one isnt to expensive so then you can pick the best
8 :
It would seem that you are in a better position to answer your question than we can. You know your priorities and preferences, we don't. Speaking both languages fluently gives you some good insight into cultural/lifestyle differences. It isn't possible to become fluent and not pick those things up. As a resident of Japan, Italy seems exotic and inviting. I imagine that if I lived in Italy I would see Japan as exotic and inviting. I have been sleeping with my wife for 15 years. If I started sleeping with my wife's beautiful younger sister I might enjoy it. I hope that clears things up for you.

what are the best things to do in Florence, Italy

what are the best things to do in Florence, Italy?
im planning on going to florence this summer and would like to know things to do there? places to eat, see, anything? but most importantly is there any basketball courts there? i know europe isnt as fond of basketball as the united states is but i am particularly interested in basketball and have to write an article on european basketball by playing a game down there for my school paper. any help finding basketball courts would be nice

There must be basketballcourts there as, amazingly, they have a team. http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntry=ita&Team=303 Otherwise, Uffizzi and the other museums, the Cathedral, the Ponte Vecchio and countless other beautiful things. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2783533-florence_things_to_do-i http://www.mega.it/eng/egui/hogui.htm http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g187895-Activities-Florence_Tuscany.html Take the bus to Fiesole, which is the most beautiful place on a hill. You'll be glad you went. By the way, there are many concerts in the summer arranged free of charge in some of the beautiful buildings.
2 :
I just wrote my penpal who lives in Prato, a suburb of Florence. He said there is a cathedral, an emperor's castle, and a textile museum in his town. He said there aren't many tourists because it isn't near the city center. Downtown Florence gets super crowded in June and July with tourists, so Prato might be a nice trip off the beaten path. It would be fun to take a walking tour of downtown Florence. Its very compact, you can see a lot on foot. See all the cathedrals, the Duomo, Santa Maria Novella. Dress conservatively when touring the churches, or they'll make you buy a paper gown to wear inside and cover yourself. Definitely have some gelato. I have yet to find gelato in the states as good as in Florence. My favorite was tiramisu gelato, with the chunks of ladyfingers in it. Try the blood oranges. They are sweeter nowhere else. Fried iris petals- sound wierd to eat, but they are really good. I'm not sure what the Italian name is for them. Its an appetizer. And of course, eat some tiramisu. They pronounce tiramisu with a lot of flair- tea-RAHH-me-soo. Don't know much about b-ball though.
3 :
The best thing to do in Florence is to see David's statue and the Basilica.
4 :
I just got back from Italy 3 days ago. While there, we visited Florence so I can give you some valuable advice. Take guided tours, do not rent a car and drive yourself. You will see so much more if you are with a group. Driving in Florence is a nightmare if you don't know the city. Enjoy your trip.

Make a more eco-friendly town. Create a whole knew rail system that saves gas. Cities are doing that now and ones that do it get alot of people. People are going crazy about the enviroment nowadays and you could center an entire city off of one rail system.. Cities that change for the better are advertised because of their importance so thats alot of free advertisment as well.

This sounds like a worthwhile project and a way to get more involved. I will help you all that I can. I will capitalize the alternatives that I would recommend. This report is intended to recommend ways in which OUR town could update its image to attract more young people from abroad. (note: changing "the" to "our" you will be making yourself part of the town.) I have discussed the question with my friends and most of them think that the following ideas should be considered by the local council if it wants to ENHANCE the image of our town. (Note: ENHANCE is more positive than "improve" which could be taken as a comment of failure on the council's part.) 2.Organise shows with the live performances of local singers and other local talent to entertain the tourists. (note: a little rewording puts the point of interest on the visitor while offering opportunities to get more locals involved which will produce revenue for the town.) 3.UPGRADE AND/OR EXPAND the gym and ALL ITS equipment. THE GYM WILL BE A BENEFIT IN MARKETING OUR TOWN FOR TOURISM TO THIS AGE GROUP. (note: tell them why it is a benefit to the town. They don't really care about the fitness of young people. They are interested in what kind of money is it going to cost and what will the town benefit from it.) Those few alternatives will make it stronger in the aspect of being beneficial as far as the town council is concerned. The website is a great idea and an absolute necessity. Think about what kind of tours of the surrounding area can be put together for the tourists. Does your town have a festival or celebration during the year that could be advertised? If not, what kind of festival would represent your town the best or would fit into the culture of your area. What about some sort of music festival? One of the keys is to show the town leaders how they can pay for the improvements and end up increasing revenue in the town. If your plan succeeds, the revenue from tourism should increase significantly. Good luck with it. I wish you the best.

Do you know any good schools/universities in Spain, France, Italy that offer the programs I'm interested in?)

wait til college to take courses on archaelogy or cosmology, because high school is not that varied at all. the most interesting class i have taken in high school is law enforcement. and i will be taking construction next year. i guess my high school prepares us for the dead end jobs haha

All that stuff you want to do comes after majoring in it in college. High school is pretty much just a higher level of the basics, plus a few electives. So if i were you, i'd take an astronomy class, some kind of ancient world history class, any religion classes...Well idk what your high school offers. Just flip through the course guide and circle what interests you.

traveling allover Europe for work. Who went to college in the States as a Philosophy major currently only completed three years. Got married to an American boy, who just finished medical school, after 4 weeks dating. They are still together after over a year. She currently can't go back to school because she has to work since they need the money for living. She also is not quite sure what kind of job she should do after her modeling carreer is over. She speaks Italian, German and English fluently. So, what do you think about her and what should she do?

Is she.... you? lol It sounds like she is young enough to put off school for a couple of years, when he can start making good money. I see no problem in getting a good job, especially when she can use so many life experiences as her qualifications and the three years of college. Try an Italian or German corporation in your area. They always need translators and would seemingly give you a chance. Remember this Signora, his career prospects are a key for both of you. It can allow you, eventually, to take some time off to finish your schooling, to have children, and to work on a small business startup. Good luck!

Summer/Spring outfits for a school trip

Summer/Spring outfits for a school trip?
Hi, I need two outfits, one for summer and one for spring. The spring one is to wear for school, so I cant wear just tank tops or excruciatingly short shorts. and the summer one is for a school trip to greece and italy in the summer, i can wear tank tops and short shorts then. I have extremley long and gangly legs, so I look rediculous in short shorts anyways, but I don't know, maybe I could pull it off! i'm 5' 3'' my measurement are 34 24 34 and i'm pale with green eyes and shoulder length brown hair. money is tight, so I would like some low prices.. thank you!
